Drow Elf with slender build, lusciously long white hair, & eyes that even the most apt explorer would get lost in.
Soro Boru was brought into this world by Jin & Nond Boru who lived in a small, forgotten fishing village. Soro’s father was a fisherman, like most of the men in village, and his mother ran a small shop known for its apothecarian goods. As a young boy, Soro’s two favorite hobbies were A) collecting snakes from the tall grass as the creatures fascinated him and his mother constantly sought out native specimen & B) playing long games of ghost and seeker with the other children in town. For many years, the Boru family was happy and lived a comfortable existence.
However, in Soro’s teen years, a visitor came to the village seeking treatment from Soro’s mother, Nond. The visitor, looking normal upon his first appearance, took up residence in the community and soon after became ill. After a week’s time had passed, the visitor succumbed to fatal disease he had been hiding and what’s more, the doctor of the town had never seen nor heard of the medical conditions/symptoms the man had fallen prey to. Weeks past and one by one, the people of the village began to show similar symptoms to that of stranger’s disease. When the disease finally got ahold of Jin Boru, scared it would claim the life of her only child, Soro’s mother sent him to live with his Uncle, Edo, while she stayed behind in an attempt to develop a cure and tend to her dying husband. Soro did not like this decision, but could not disobey his mother’s wishes for him to live on and thrive.
When Soro arrived to his Uncle’s residence with in Helensport, he was immediately put to work running the store front of a medicine shop. Soro was used to this lifestyle, but soon grew complacent and overworked as Edo was slowly losing business due to his crippling addiction to drinking and gambling. Edo was hardly ever at the shop and when he was, he only seemed to worsen his relations with his once loyal customers and vendors. Soro’s only friend at this time was his pet snake- Orochi, a viper that was very loyal to his master & companion. Soro would discuss his problems & concerns with Orochi and pretend he could understand what the snake was thinking. One day while doing so, Orochi actually spoke back- Soro couldn’t believe it at first and was starting to think he was going mad. The viper soon proved himself true when he caught a customer stealing a tincture and reported such claims to Soro. Soro could not believe his new found abilities and was happy he could finally communicate with his longtime friend, Orochi.
Times soon became hard as Edo fell into debt with a local syndicate and eventually gambled away all his savings and eventually his business. One night, Soro was rudely awakened as he was dragged from his bed by two large thugs and taken out of his home into the dark streets of Helensport. Soro tried to struggle, but he was overpowered by the brutes and then rendered unconscious. When he awoke, he was told that his uncle had been found dead (he had been drowned) and he was now property of the Crimson Scales. Soro was not surprised by the circumstances of his uncle’s death, but he was also not pleased by the new developments in his life.
Soro went on to serve the Crimson Scales and even though he was technically a “slave,” the organization eventually accepted him as one of their own. In his time with the syndicate, he was taught many things such as knowledge of the law, hand-crafting/handling explosives, how to handle a bow and knife, the art of sweet talking/lying, and remaining “unseen.” Ironically, in a twist of events, Soro saved the life of Negum “Tantō” Ohciat, the son of the Crimson Scales’ local crime lord. The boy was poisoned at a family event and by creating an anti-venom, Soro was able to counteract the effects of the venom that was used upon the victim. The crime lord offered Soro one favor and in that moment- he requested and was granted his freedom. Even though he was now free, Soro still remained loyal and in touch with the Crimson Scales, running regular mercenary jobs for the organization.
All was well until Helensport was eventually abandoned during “Reconstruction” due to relentless Seidiir sieges upon the city. Syndicate business began to dwindle and after a series of deaths amongst the top ranks of the organization, operations were at a complete halt. Soro soon found himself looking for mercenary work within (city of current campaign), itching for the excitement and challenge the life of a syndicate member once gave him. Leaving his past in the ruins of Helensport, he was ready for whatever fate had in store for him.
