While Helensport (the giant city floating in the middle of the ocean) actually survived the Restoration (deliberately, as the original merchants knew the old maps and placed it so that if the water did go down it would be safe), the Seidiir considered it an affront to their home and sieged it, and while the merchants would normally be able to call in mercenaries, too many were tied up in the land scramble, and they eventually abandoned the city. Once the land scramble died down, the Merchants bought a region of land in the North of Nyman from the Church, who were seeking funds to maintain their assault on Midgart. The Merchants knew it contained the original Arcane Academy of Arcania, and they promoted the restoration of a centralized Arcane Academy so that the Arcanists would return to practice and research there, aided by the funds and forces of the Merchants. This has enabled the Merchants to begin their own military group, as opposed to hiring their own for everything. They are currently heavily invested in rebuilding the ruins of Arcania. With their alliance with the Church, they have been able to focus their forces southward on the Lunatic and Alduran excursions northward, though the Aldurans have recently attempted to form an alliance.
