Brook and Co.
Brook and Co. is the trading company started by former pirate Mr. Goldhand Brook. Due to its proprietor’s ruthless nature, it is one of the more prominent trading companies in Nyman. Its main business is the commercial and diplomatic dance that is trade between the world’s powers. Like any decent trade company, it dabbles in racketeering, extortion, blackmail, and, of course, piracy. Perhaps its most controversial avenue for profit has been the occassional human trafficking of war refugees, who, fleeing to the coasts for some respite from the savages of war, find Brook and Co. agents waiting with open arms… and clasped irons.
A young and ambitious Djembe rose rapidly through its ranks, eventually buying the recently decommissioned Ameobi from Mr. Goldhand Brook after earning his attention. As was usual among the pirate-like merchant guilds, DJembe’s rise coincided with the downfall of many of those once favored by Mr. Brook: his second in command, known only as Sinker, died of natural causes at the age of 38 (that is, if one considers drowning a natural death). It was considered by many a fitting and humourous end to Sinker. He was quickly replaced by Herdr Shaftcraft, another of the company’s rising stars.
Following the auspicious circumstances under which the Ameobi was sunk, Djembe met his own downfall within the company as he was pressed into indentured servitude, once again a lowly dockhand where he served as a boy.
